EasyStart™ Flex—The most advanced and effective soft starter for home and business A/C applications
The EasyStart Flex is a unique, custom-designed soft starter for single-phase motors, commonly found in homes and businesses. It uses a 4-part ramp-up system that automatically adjusts and lowers start-up power by up to 75%. This makes it ideal for running air conditioners or refrigeration units on generators, inverters, or limited power sources in situations where they normally wouldn't work, such as natural disasters or emergencies. It's also great for air compressors and fluid pump motors, ensuring smooth operation with less strain on your power supply.
The Micro-Air EasyStart Flex soft starter supports 2 to 6 ton air conditioning units. This next-gen of EasyStart replaces older versions including the X48 (ASY-368-X72-BLUE) and X72 (ASY-368-X48-BLUE).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Starter?
The Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Starter is a smart little device that helps your air conditioner kick on without pulling a huge power surge right out of the gate. Normally, AC units need a big burst of electricity—called "inrush current"—when they start up, which can overload smaller generators, trip circuit breakers, or stress out off-grid systems. The EasyStart eases in the power gradually, so your AC starts smoothly, even on lower-capacity power sources like small generators, inverters, or limited shore power that’s typical in RVs or off-grid setups.
How does the Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Starter work?
The EasyStart works by reducing that initial power surge your air conditioner usually needs. Here’s the breakdown:
Gradual Power Ramp-Up: Instead of pushing all the power to the compressor at once, the EasyStart gently ramps up the current. This reduces the inrush current by as much as 70%.
Adaptive Learning: The EasyStart “learns” your air conditioner’s power needs over the first 5 cycles. It adjusts its ramp-up for smoother, more efficient starts every time.
Prevents Power Overload: By cutting down the inrush current, the EasyStart makes it possible to run your AC without tripping breakers or overloading your power source whether it’s a small generator, an inverter, or limited shore power.
Use with Smaller Generators: With EasyStart, your AC can start and run on a smaller generator—often as low as 2200 watts—which means less gear to haul around and more cooling options on the road.
What’s the difference between the EasyStart Breeze and EasyStart Flex?
The EasyStart Breeze is designed and optimizedfor RV air conditioners while the EasyStart Flex is versatile enough to handle units from 2-6 tons residential air conditioners. If you’re looking to cool your home or a business, the Flex is your go-to.
Can I install the Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Starter myself?
Absolutely! The EasyStart is designed with DIY installation in mind, and it comes with step-by-step instructions along with Hutch Mountain’s installation kit. But if electrical work isn’t your thing, it’s always a good call to have a licensed electrician handle it for safety.
Will installing a Micro-Air EasyStart void my air conditioner’s warranty?
In most cases, no. The EasyStartwon’t void your AC warranty, but it’s wise to check with your AC’s manufacturer or review the warranty terms before you install, just to be safe.
How much power can I save with an EasyStart Soft Starter?
The EasyStart cuts down that startup power surge by up to 75%, so your AC can get going on smaller power sources. However, it won’t change the AC’s running power usage once it’s up and cooling.
How long does it take for the EasyStart to ‘learn’ my air conditioner?
Usually, the EasyStart only needs about 4-5 cycles to learn and adapt to your AC unit’s specific startup needs. After that, it’s all smooth sailing.
Can a soft starter damage a motor?
Not at all—soft starters like EasyStart are designed to protect your motor. By reducing the startup surge, they minimize the wear on the motor and help it last longer. Just be sure the soft starter you’re using is compatible with your motor and follow the installation instructions to avoid issues.
How can I tell if a soft starter is bad?
Here are some warning signs:
Frequent Tripping: If your circuit breaker trips often, it might be the soft starter.
Inconsistent Performance: If the motor has trouble starting or runs erratically, there could be a problem.
Overheating: Excessive heat coming from the soft starter may signal trouble.
Burning Smell or Visible Damage: These can indicate electrical failure—never a good sign.
What’s the lifespan of a soft starter?
A soft starter generally lasts about 10-15 years, depending on its quality and the conditions it’soperating in. Regular maintenance and a solid installation can help maximize its life.
Can I use the EasyStart Flex with a backup generator?
Yes, the Flex works well with backup generators by reducing the startup power surge, preventing breakers from tripping.
What size generator do I need for the EasyStart Flex?
Typically, a 5,000 to 10,000-watt generator will do the trick, depending on your AC’s requirements.
Is the EasyStart Flex weatherproof?
It’s meant for indoor use and isn’t weatherproof, so keep it protected from direct exposure to moisture or extreme conditions.
This seems to be a great product so far. Easy installation, and seems to be very heavy duty product. I'm still waiting to see the savings on my monthly electric bill. ( just installed so haven't got a bill yet. ) Very noticeable that the lights don't go dim when the furnace comes on. So far a great product and would recommend buying it.

Great customer service
We ordered a soft starter on Amazon 5 months ago and needed another one since we have 2 ac’s. I had a question do I called and to find out I had ordered the one for RV by mistake so they had me send that one back and they sent the correct one. They were so helpful and expedited everything and included a return label
